ALBANY’S 12th RADIO AUCTION

Held on 16th May 2010, The Rotary Radio Auction raised funds for use in a number of areas, including local, national and international worthy causes/recipients. The basis of the Auction is that donors provided goods, services or vouchers which were then advertised in 2 editions of the Albany & Great Southern Weekender, prior to the day of the auction. This gave the bidding public the opportunity to visit those donor’s business premises to view what might be available at the auction.

Successful bidders paid the Rotary Club for their purchases and then went to the business to collect their goods or redeem their vouchers. Highlighting local businesses and their services is the aim of the auction with the intention of increasing customer traffic. Funds raised by the auction have been used over the years to support The Silver Chain organisation, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Schizophrenia Association, Albany Surf Lifesaving Association and other smaller volunteer organisations. The 2010 Radio Auction provided funds for the Albany Hospice, Senior Citizens Centre, Silver Chain and Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The Albany & Great Southern Weekender, Community Radio and PCYC were been keen supporters of the Radio Auction and provided invaluable assistance in the running of the auction.
